Thanksgiving wine recommendations begin this week with selections offered by the tasting panel of the Dallas Morning News. Eric Asimov, writing in the New York Times, takes a close look at dry red wines from the Duoro in Portugal and likes what he sees. And Washington Post guest writer Joseph Ward looks for and finds several red wines from Bordeaux that still offer value for the dollar. John Gillespie

New York Times: Wine columnist Eric Asimov on dry red wines from the Duoro in Portugal. Judged best in tasting is Quinta Vale D. Maria 2003, while Palestra 2003 was cited for value.

Wall Street Journal: Wine columnists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher on Penfolds Grange. Great admiration expressed, with highest praise for the 2001 vintage.

Bloomberg News Service: Wine columnist John Mariani on author Ruolph Chelminski and his new book on Beaujolais and Georges Duboeuf.

Newsday: Staff writer Peter Gianotti recommends wines under $15, including Alice White Chardonnay 2006, Beringer Third Centrury Syrah 2005, Clos du Bois Rieslig 2006, Diseno Malbec 2006, Domaine Willm Cremant d'Alsace, Girlan Blauburgunder 2005, Hayman & Hill Interchange 2006, Matua Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Monkey Bay Chardonnay 2006, Muri-Gries Bolzano Pinot Bianco 2005, Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Syrah 2005, Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet 2005, and La Vendemmia Chianti 2004.

San Francisco Chronicle: The Chronicle tasting panel reviews Napa Valley appellation Cabernet Sauvignon wines priced over $50. Perfect score granted to Dominus Napa Valley Red Wine 2004.

San Francisco Chronicle: Guest writer Jim Clarke on the white wines of New Zealand. In-depth look beyond Sauvignon Blanc. No tasting notes, but nice mentions for Felton Road, Te Awa, Vinoptima, and Dry River.

Sacramento Bee: Wine columnist Mike Dunne on bottle recycling and related wine industry issues.

San Jose Mercury News: Wine columnist Laurie Daniel on wines from Argentina. Producers whose wine are noted include Cheval des Andes, Luigi Bosca, Vistalba, Don Nicanor, Clos de los Siete, Susana Balbo, Santa Julia, Don Rodolfo, Broquel, Terrazax de los Andes, Zuccardi, Tomero, Pascual Toso, and Catena Zapata.

San Diego Union Tribune: Wine columnist Robert Whitley on consumer perspectives regarding the rising levels of alcohol in many California wines.

Washington Post: Guest writer Joseph Ward on finding values in Bordeaux. Recommended are Chateau Potensac 2003, Chateaux Poujeaux 2000, Chateau Sociando-Mallet 2003, Chateau de Reignac (recent vintages), and Chateau Leoville Barton 2004.

Houston Chronicle: Wine columnist Michael Lonsford profiles the Felton Road winery in New Zealand. On another page, very high marks for the Central Otago Chardonnay 2005 and Pinot Noir 2005, as well as the 'Calvert Vineyard' Pinot Noir 2006, and 'Block 3' Pinot Noir 2006.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Wine writer Gil Kulers continue's last weeks summary of recommendations from Atlanta area wine retailers. Wines suggested are Caravan Napa Valley, Hestan Vineyards 'Meyer Vineyard' Cabernet Sauvignon, Bruno Giacosa Barbera d'Alba 2005, and Ferrari-Carano Siena.

Dallas Morning News: Wine panel offers choices of wines to put on the Thanksgiving table. Suggeted are Segura Viudas Brut Rose NV, Zind Humbrecht Pinot d'Alsace 2004 (or 2005), McPherson Rose of Syrah Grenache 2006, Bodegas Agapito Rico 'Carchelo' Monastrell 2006, A by Acacia Pinot Noir 2005, Four Vines 'Old Vine Cuvee' Zinfandel 2005, and Benziger Syrah 2004. Also suggested are any of the 'cru' Beaujolais.

Dallas Morning News: Wine writer Kim Pierce offers tasting notes on best-selling wines in Dallas retail shops. Included are Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs NV, ZD Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2003, Bocage Chardonnay 2005, Times Ten Cellars North Coast Cab 2004, Joel Gott Blend No. 815 Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, Schloss Vollrads Riesling Kabinett 2006, and Veuve Cliquot Brut NV.

Nice mention also for Dtour from Daniel Johnnes.

Rocky Mountain News: Wine columnist Jennifer Rosen on Cognac this week, with numerous recommendations.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel: Wine writer Bob Hosmon on wines from the Colchagua Valley in Chile. Recommended are Carmenere wines - Arboleda Valley 2005, Montes Purple Angel 2004, and Vina MontGras 2005.

Nashville Tennessean: Wine columnist Frank Sutherland on good value Cabernet Sauvignon wines from California. Top choice is Smoking Loon 2005.

Chicago Tribune: Wine reporter Bill Daley on a recent dinner pairing wines with foods expressing the 'umami' taste sensation. Cited are Segura Viudas Cava Brut Rose, Josmeyer Riesling Le Kottabe 2002, Mahoney Vineyards Pinot Noir 2003, The Colonial Estate Emigre 2004, and Lustau Pedro Ximenez Sherry Solera Reserva San Emilio.
