Washington wines get much attention and praise this week, with reviews of Washington Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varietal wines by the tasting panel of the San Francisco Chronicle. Elsewhere in the Bay Area, columnist Laurie Daniel, of the San Jose Mercury News, also has nice things to say for red wines coming from the Walla Walla region of Washington. And both the Rocky Mountain News and Dallas Morning News offer suggestions of wines to pair with Fourth of July BBQ fare.  John Gillespie

Dallas Morning News: Wine columnist Rebecca Murphy picks Principe di Corleone Narciso Nero d'Avola 2006.

New York Times: Wine columnist Eric Asimov writes on root beer this week, not wine.

Wall Street Journal: Wine columnists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher on inexpensive Chardonnay. Favored under $20 are Cambria 'Katherine's Vineyard' 2005, Markham Vineyards 2005, Meridian Vineyards 2006, and St. Clement Vineyards 2006.

Business Week: Wine critic Robert Parker on Gruner Veltliner wines. Highest rated are Franz Hirtzberger Federspiel Rotes Tor 2006, F.X. Pichler Smaragd Von den Terrassen 2006, and Nikolaihof Hefeabzug 2006.

Bloomberg News Service: Wine columnist Elin McCoy on the difficult market for Bordeaux 2007 futures. Nice comments for some relative bargains such as Chateau Climens, Doisy-Daene, Doisy-Vedrines, and Suduiraut for the sweet wines, as well as Domaine de Chavalier Blanc.

Newsday: Staff writer Peter Gianotti recommends B3 Blanc de Blancs from Bedell Cellars.

Boston Globe: Wine columnist Stephen Meuse on red wines for summer sipping. Recommended are Chateau Pesquie 'Terrasses' Cotes du Ventoux 2005, Santa Julia Malbec 2006, Montes 'Classic Series' Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Reserve des Vignerons Saumur 2005, and Salzl Burgenland Zweigelt 2006.

Newark Star-Ledger: Wine writer T.J. Foderaro on wine rating systems, with comments from retailers Gary Fisch and Chris Cree.

San Francisco Chronicle: The Chron icle tasting panel reviews Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varietal blended wines from Washington. Highest rating is given to Andew Will 'Ciel du Cheval' Vineyard Red Mountain Red Wine 2005.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Wine writer Gil Kulers profiles Master Sommelier George Miliotes. Recommendations from Miliotes are Paso a Paso Verdejo 2007, Aveleda Trajadura 2007, Selbach-Oster Riesling 2006, and Scott Paul 'La Paulee' Pinot Noir 2006.

Arizona Republic: Wine columnist Mark Tarbell offers tasting notes on wines sampled at the Aspen Food & Wine Classic. Included are Thelema Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Geisen Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Benziger Family Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Penfolds 'Rawson's Retreat' Riesling 2007, J. Dallas Morning News: The tasting panel recommends wines to pair with pork ribs. Miami Herald: Wine columnist Fred Tasker on the wines of the MontGras winery in Chile. Highest recommendations go to the Amaral Sauvignon Blanc 2008, Ninquen Antu Syrah 2006, and Quattro 2007. On another page, a bargain recommendation for Beringer Founder's Estate Pinot Noir 2006.

Nashville Tennessean: Wine columnist Frank Sutherland on the value of red wines from Portugal. Top choice is Crasto 2006.
