New York Times:
Wine columnist Eric Asimov has the week off. Columnist Florence Fabricant, however, offers a piece on the pleasures of Sherry.

Wall Street Journal:
Wine columnists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher on resolutions for the New Year in wine. Along the way, high praise for Domaine Zind Humbrecht 'Clos Windsbuhl' Gewurztraminer 1991.

Financial Times:
Wine columnist Jancis Robinson on the 2007 vintage in Chateauneuf du Pape. Lots of praise for the vintage, with very high ratings for wines from Perrin and Chateau Rayas.

Boston Globe: Wine columnist Stephen Meuse on sparkling wines. Recommended are Delapierre Classic Seco Cava, Jacob's Creek Brut Cuvee NV, Zonin Special Cuvee Prosecco NV, Cristalino Cava Brut NV, and Mionetto Valdobbiadene Prosecco Brut NV.

San Francisco Chronicle:
The Chronicle tasting panel reviews Malbec wines from Argentina. Highest ratings go to Dante Robino 2006, and Colome Valle Calchaqui 2006.

San Francisco Chronicle:
Staff writer Amanda Gold on Round Pond Estate in Rutherford. Much of the focus is on the olive oil, but there is also praise for the Cabernet Sauvignon and Nebbiolo.

San Jose Mercury News:
Wine columnist Laurie Daniel on finding real values in wine. Recommendations are for varietals like Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc from numerous regions. Specific attention is called to the wines of Spain - especially Rioja - and Southern Italy. Other regions favored are Sicily, and the Rhone, Corbieres, Cotes du Ventoux, Cotes du Roussillon, and Muscadet in France. Southern Hemisphere wines (such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc from South Africa, and Malbec wines from Argentina) also garner praise as values.

Washington Post:
Wine columnists Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg on pairing wine and food. Along the way, nice mentions for a number of Priorat wines - Clos Mogador 2006, Vall Llach Idus 2004, Clos Figueres 2004, and Finca La Planeta.

Houston Chronicle:
Wine columnist Dale Robertson on the wines made by or for luninaries in the world of sports. Focus on Greg Norman wines and offerings from Lance Armstrong, Jeff Gordon, Carmen Policy, and others. Also, nice comment on Soligo Prosecco as a value alternative to Champagne.

Minneapolis Star Tribune: Wine writer Bill Ward writes on cider this week, but also offers a recommendation for CARM Douro 2005, from Portugal.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram: Wine writer Jeff Siegel on wines for New Year's Eve. The choices are Domaine Ste. Michelle Brut NV, and Montaudon Brut NV.

Rocky Mountain News: Wine columnist Ben Weinberg on wine wishes for the New Year. Nice mentions for Jardin Chardonnay, Wakefield Dry Riesling, Ravenswood Petite Sirah, Fairhope Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonterra Viognier, Benziger Pinot Noir, Dr. Thanisch Riesling Classic, and Joseph Drouhin Chorey-les-Beaune.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel:
Wine writer Bob Hosmon on finding good value in Australian wine. Recommendations from Lindemans are for the Bin 45 Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, Bin 50 Shiraz 2007, and Bin 55 Shiraz Cabernet 2007. From Rosemount, the recommendations are for the Show Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, and the Show Reserve McLaren Vale GSM 2005.

Miami Herald:
Wine columnist Fred Tasker on New Year's wine resolutions. Along the way, recommendation for Bodega Norton Malbec 2007 as a great value.

Nashville Tennessean:
Wine columnist Frank Sutherland on the best wine values of 2008. At the top of the list is Hughes Beaulieu Picpoul de Pinet 2007.

Chicago Tribune: Wine reporter Bill Daley on the top wines tasted in 2008. A dozen are listed, with four star ratings for Botromagno Primitivo 2006, Churton Sauvignon Blanc 2006, and Stag's Leap Winery Petite Sirah 2004.

Wine blogger Alder Yarrow has posted a review (written by W. Blake Gray) of Paul Lukacs' new book - American Vintage.
