Thanksgiving wine selection season is in full swing in numerous columns this week, most notably in the Wall Street Journal, where writers Gaiter and Brecher recommend first-rate Cabernet Sauvignons. In the Minneapolis Star Tribune, guest writer Tim Teichgraeber offers a fine and in-depth look at the evolution of wine quality in Sicily. New York Times: Wine columnist Eric Asimov on Madeira. Focus on the collection at the River Cafe in New York. Lots of history and appreciation, with comments from Mannie Berk of Rare Wine Company, who imports many of them.

Wall Street Journal: Wine columnists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher on Cabernet Sauvignon wines for Thanksgiving. Top choice is Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 'Cask 23' 2002.

Business Week: Wine critic Robert Parker on the wines of Languedoc. Highest rated are Mas Carlot Costires de Nimes 'Les Enfants Terribles' 2005, and Chateau d'Or et De Gueules Costieres de Nimes 2003.

Newsday: Staff writer Peter Gianotti recommends dozens of wines for Thanksgiving. Nice comments for Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Pinot Noir 2006, and mentions of more than one wine from Schramsberg and Domaine Faiveley.

New York Sun: Wine columnist Peter Hellman on the Craggy Range 'food wine wine' tasting held recently at Per Se restaurant in New York.

USA Today: Wine columnist Jerry Shriver recommends Veramonte Reserva Pinot Noir 2006, Rosemount Show Reserve Shiraz 2005 (and 2004), Hogue Cellars 'Genesis' Syrah 2005, and McManis Family Vineyards Syrah 2006.

Newark Star-Ledger: Wine writer John Foy on the wines of Kent Rosenblum. Recommended is Rosenblum Monte Rosso Zinfandel 2005.

Minneapolis Star Trubune: Guest writer Tim Teichgraeber on the wines of Sicily. Nice comments on wines from Feudo Arancio, Tenuta delle Terre Nere, Cusomano, and Azienda Agricola.

San Francisco Chronicle: The Chronicle tasting panel reviews Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wines costing over $50. Highest rating goes to Spottswoode Estate St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 2004.

Sacramento Bee: Wine columnist Mike Dunne on challenges to the California wine industry from imported wines. Nice comments for numerous wines imported by Kermit Lynch, including Charles Joguet Chinon Les Petites Roches 2005, Savary Chablis 2006, Domaine Comtesse Bernard de Cherisey Meursault-Blagny 'La Genelotte' 2004, and others. Nice comments, too, on a number of wines from Palacio Remondo.

San Jose Mercury News: Wine columnist Laurie Daniel on truth in wine marketing. Nice comments for the forthright Randall Grahm.

Los Angeles Times: Guest writer Patrick Comiskey on pairing seafood with Chablis. Nice comments on several wines, including the 2004 and 2005 vintage of Jean Collet Vaillons, and Olivier Savary Vieilles Vignes 2005. Comments also from the Drouhin family and Michel Laroche.

San Diego Union Tribune: Wine columnist Robert Whitley on Willowbrook Cellars. Praise for the Kastania Vineyard Pinot Noir 2005, Morelli Lane Pinot Noir 2005, and Estate Pinot Noir 2005.

Washington Post: Wine writers Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg on pairing wine with chocolate. On another page, tasting notes on Torres Aqua d'Or, Tapestry Bakers Gully Vineyard Shiraz 2005, Les Clos de Paulilles Banyus Rimage 2005, Heitz Cellars Ink Grade Port, and Domecq Venerable Very Rare Pedro Ximinez Sherry.

Washington Times: Wine columnist Paul Lukacs on wines for Thanksgiving. Recommended are a Pinot Blancs from Jean-Baptiste Adam, Hugel, Kuentz-Bas, and Sipp Mack. Oregon Pinot Gris wines from Adelsheim, A to Z, Chehalem, and Ponzi are also recommended, as are Barberas from Poderi Colla, Massolino, La Morandina, and Villa Giada. And rounding out the selections are Cotes du Rhones from Domaine de Cassan, Domaine Perrin, Grand Veneur, and Domaine de la Janasse.

Houston Chronicle: Wine columnist Michael Lonsford profiles the Peter Lehmann winery in Australia. On another page, praise for several of the wines, including Clancy's 2004, 'Eight Songs' Shiraz 2002, 'Stonewell' Shiraz 2002, and 'Mentor' Cabernet Sauvignon 2002.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Wine writer Gil Kulers has nice comments for Parducci Wine Cellars Petite Sirah 2004.

Arizona Republic: Wine columnist Mark Tarbell offers tasting notes on hard-to-find wines in the Phoenix area. Highest score is given to Broman Cellars Lot No. 127 'Premiere Napa Valley X.'

Dallas Morning News: Wine writer Kim Pierce on Burgundy, with a focus on the Drouhin family. Tasting notes on the Laforet Chardonnay 2006, Laforet Pinot Noir 2006 and Vero Pinot Noir 2005.

Rocky Mountain News: Wine columnist Jennifer Rosen on wine gadgets. Recommended whites this week are Man Chenin Blanc 2007, Oak Knoll Pinot Gris 2006, Beringer Knights Valley Alluvium Blanc 2006, and Villa Russiz Pinot Bianco 2006.
