Where to donate to support fire relief

Napa, Calif.—Relief efforts are expanding as fires throughout Northern California cause more damage and evacuations. Wine Enthusiast magazine compiled the following list of charitable efforts to support victims of the fires: 

• Donate or volunteer at the Red Cross of Northern California, or call 1-800 RED CROSS or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

• In response to the wildfires, the Napa Valley Community Foundation has mobilized its Disaster Relief Fund.

• Fundraising is underway for Napa and Sonoma County Fire Relief, for firefighters across all the regions affected. The funds will go to Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue Authority, Napa County Fire Department and Lake County Fire and Rescue, as well as other relief efforts.

• The organization Women of the Vine & Spirits set up its own relief fund, with proceeds being distributed to the Red Cross of Northern California, United Way of Wine Country and the Napa Valley Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund.

• A community-founded GoFundMe Fire Relief Fund is raising money to help buy victims necessities, such as non-perishables sleeping bags, non-perishable foods, hygienic items and kids’ pajamas. 

Airbnb’s Open Homes program is open for volunteers willing to provide temporary housing to evacuees.

• Local food pantries in Napa, Sonoma and Yuba counties are accepting donations for fire victims.

• The Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership is assisting relief efforts. 

Idle Hand in San Francisco has a drop-off location for supplies. 

• Oakland, Calif.-based 1-2-3-4 Go! Records also is providing a drop-off location for supplies.

• Visit the websites of Humane Society of Sonoma County, the Humane Society of Napa County and the Yuba-Sutter SPCA for more information on animal relief efforts.

• Those interested in donating can also look at the various grassroots GoFundMe efforts to find a number of families and organizations in need of help.
