Modesto, Calif.—E. & J. Gallo Winery announced its agreement to purchase Talbott Vineyards in Gonzales, Calif. Founded by Robb Talbott in 1982, the winery now produces 100,000 cases from more than 500 acres of estate vineyards.

Gallo is buying the brand, winery and vineyards for an undisclosed amount. The company plans to continue to operate the Talbott Vineyards tasting room in Carmel Valley. “They represent the same commitment to quality that has been part of our heritage since the beginning,” said Robb Talbott in a statement released by Gallo. “My family and I are grateful to all of those that have been part of the journey, and are confident that the future for Talbott Vineyards will be secured by E. & J. Gallo.”

The vineyards include the Diamond T vineyard in Carmel Valley and the 525-acre Sleepy Hollow in the Sana Lucia Highlands AVA. Both are planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Talbotts have sold grapes from Sleepy Hollow to Gallo since the mid-1990s.

International Wine Associates of Healdsburg, Calif., represented Talbott Vineyards in the transaction.
