Ardagh Group released a new 1.5 liter bottle that weighs 670 grams, or 24 ounces, making it compliant with new standards for lightweight bottles by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO). In addition to the 1.5 liter Bordeaux bottle, Ardagh Group currently offers a collection of ten 750ml bottles and one 1 liter bottle in compliance with LCBO standards.

Sonoma Cast Stone unveiled the NuBarrel, a concrete, stackable tank designed as an alternative for oak barrels. The new tank holds as much wine as four standard barrels but will last for nearly 40 years, according to the manufacturer. The NuBarrel also features an immersion sleeve to add or remove oak chips as needed.

The Zebra fermentation vat by Tonnellerie Rousseau is assembled with alternating, 50-mm French oak staves that have been toasted in the traditional manner over open fires with staves that were toasted in a convection oven. The two toasting methods produce staves of contrasting color thus giving the vats their striped appearance.
The SC100 chips by Boise France of Vivelys are designed to bring “richness, mellowness and sweetness” to red, rosé and white wines that risk tasting too harsh. With an extraction time of five weeks, the chips can be used at various stages of the winemaking process as needed. The typical dosing rate is 1 to 5 grams per liter depending on the impact desired.
