Davis, Calif.—After three decades as executive directorof the America Society for Enology and Viticulture, ASEV, Lyndie Boulton announced her planned retirement as well as the appointment of assistant executive director Dan Howard as her replacement.

In a statement released Feb. 27, Boulton revealed her plan to retire at the end of June and Howard’s promotion that will take effect in April. Boulton will work part-time through June to help with the transition. “Working with the amazing members and volunteers that steer this vital organization has been a tremendous privilege and very gratifying,” Boulton said. “After 34 years of managing the day-to-day operations, it’s the appropriate time for new leadership.”

During her tenure, the ASEV published the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture and was a partner in the creation of and management of the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium, the western hemisphere’s largest wine and wine grape show of its kind.

Howard has been the assistant executive director since 1996. He has a background in accounting, technology, customer service and management. During his time at the ASEV, Howard worked with the board of directors as well as the operations of the ASEV and the Unified symposium, developed the group's websiste and oversaw communications and member services. “Having the opportunity to work under Lyndie’s tutelage has been invaluable,” he said. “I look forward to carrying on her stewardship and working closely with the board to explore new opportunities to expand the mission and value of ASEV.”

The ASEV was formed in 1950 and currently has a membership of more than 2,000 professionals working in winemaking, viticulture, academia and other industry-related organizations.
