Annapolis, Calif.—Atlas Vineyard Management and Price Family Vineyards announced their formation of a joint venture and purchase of the 17-acre Walala Vineyard in the Sonoma Coast AVA.

The vineyard, which has been farmed by Atlas since it was planted in 2005, is located along a ridge at 1,200-feet elevation on a 97.5-acre property just a few miles from the ocean. Atlas approached Bill Price, owner of Classic Wines and Price Family Vineyards, about acquiring the property from The Conservation Fund, which purchased the land from CalPERS in 2013. The Conservation Fund sold the property for an undisclosed sum to Atlas and Price after they agreed not to expand the vineyard into the surrounding forest.

“Walala is a unique and one-of-a-kind vineyard that produces amazing fruit. It’s very balanced vineyard that has never frosted,” said Atlas president Mike Cybulski in a statement released by the companies.
