San Francisco, Calif.—Led by California wines, total U.S. wine exports reached a record high of $1.55 billion in 2013, according to the Wine Institute. Exports were up 16.4% over the previous year continuing a trend of consecutive value growth in the past four years. Volume shipments reached 48.4 million cases, an increase of 7.5%. The institute reports California wines account for 90% of all exports and most of that wine is going to the European Union. The 28 EU nations imported $617 million worth of U.S. wine, which is 31% more than last year. Canadian exports grew 12% to $454 million and shipments to China increased by 6% to $77 million. Imports to Hong Kong, however, fell 12% to $78 million and Japanese exports slipped 7% to $102 million. Details: wineinstitute.org
